Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Every resize happens locally in your browser using the HTML canvas API. Your image never leaves your device or touches our servers.

What image should I start with?

A square image at least 512×512 pixels gives the cleanest results across all sizes. Non-square images are automatically center-cropped, which can cut off content near the edges — see our guide on designing a favicon that works at 16×16 for tips.

Do I need the .ico file if I already have the PNGs?

Modern browsers support PNG favicons directly, but the .ico file remains the most universally compatible fallback, especially for older browsers and for the address bar shortcut icon. We recommend including both.

Why are there so many different sizes?

Different devices and contexts — browser tabs, iOS home screens, Android app drawers, PWA splash screens — each expect a specific size for the sharpest result. See our guide on favicon sizes explained for the full breakdown.

My new favicon isn't showing up on my site. Why?

This is almost always a caching issue, not a generation problem — browsers aggressively cache favicons. See our guide on favicon caching issues for how to force a refresh.
